Learn to rapidly visualize and explore demographic data from the United States Census Bureau using tidyverse tools.
Professionals in various industries heavily rely on data provided by the United States Census Bureau for their analytical work. This course aims to equip students with the necessary skills to effectively handle Census tabular and spatial data within the R environment. The primary focus of the course is on utilizing the tidycensus package, which facilitates the acquisition of data from the decennial US Census and American Community survey in a format compatible with the tidyverse framework. Additionally, students will learn to leverage the tigris package to access Census geographic data directly within R. By the conclusion of this course, students will possess the ability to efficiently visualize and explore demographic data obtained from the Census Bureau using tools such as ggplot2 and other components of the tidyverse. Furthermore, they will be capable of generating maps of Census demographic data with minimal lines of R code.
