This qualification also serves as a solid foundation for further studies in Industrial Design specialisation, supporting design and research endeavors within the tertiary education community.
This qualification was established to foster the design of locally produced products, thereby bolstering and advancing the local manufacturing industry. To foster economic growth, South Africa must transition from exporting raw materials to exporting finished goods and services. Recognizing this need, the government, through various departments including education, is facilitating the development of skills necessary to realize this objective. The program aims to contribute to the cultivation of a skilled workforce to meet industry demands. The institution advocates for Industrial Design education as this profession directly addresses the crucial process of transforming ideas into tangible products and services. The presence of designers, especially industrial designers, and engineers is essential as they play a vital role in converting raw materials into final products. Design is a critical component in the value chain, bridging the gap between concepts (or technology) and marketable products. This qualification seeks to equip young South Africans with the essential skills to create and innovate new products to meet both local and global market demands.
