Purpose and Rationale

Purpose:

The Bachelor of Nursing Honours Degree program is designed to enhance and deepen students' clinical leadership roles within a specific discipline. The program aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of nursing in both current and future contexts, while also developing their research capacity in various methodology and techniques relevant to the field.

Rationale:

The Honours in Nursing program is a specialized field that focuses on advancing Nursing Science. By offering this program, the institution aims to contribute to the creation, advancement, and dissemination of knowledge within the field of nursing. The program also aims to develop students' critical-analytic skills, enabling them to stay up-to-date with trends, legal and ethical issues in clinical nursing, and create culturally sensitive work environments.

Moreover, the qualification obtained through this program equips Nurse Practitioners with the intellectual, practical, and reflective competencies needed to excel as Nurse Managers, Educators, and Community Health Specialists. These competencies include knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values that are essential for promoting health at the individual, family, group, and community levels. Additionally, graduates are prepared to actively contribute as members of intersectoral, multi-professional, and multi-disciplinary health teams.

    • Have a sound understanding of integrative medicine in nursing practice and health setting.
    • Demonstrate insight in and use of telecommunication to provide and support health care in managing disease.
    • Appreciate the use of health information system and recognize the ethical and legal issues in the use of electronic health records.

    • Write a research proposal for implementation.
    • Describe the different research approaches and designs as they apply to nursing practice.

    • Appreciate the discipline of research and its application to nursing practice.

Integrated Assessment:

  • Written assignment (20%)
  • Test (30%)
  • Oral presentation (10%)
  • 3 hours examination (40%)
  • Formative feedback required to proceed to final examination
  • Final pass mark set at 50%
  • Research project examined by 1 internal and 1 external examiner, pass mark is 50%
