Business, Commerce and Management Studies - Generic Management
The purpose of this qualification is to provide learners with graduate-level knowledge, specific skills and applied competence in retail management that provide opportunities for continued personal intellectual growth, gainful economic activity, and rewarding contributions to society. It will also provide opportunities for continued personal intellectual growth, enhanced marketability, and enhanced employability whilst opening up new access routes to additional education and training opportunities.
The South African retail industry is the largest in the sub-Saharan region and is positioned as the 20th largest retail market in the world. The South African economy is a consumer-driven economy where consumer spending accounts for two-thirds of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). This qualification will provide access to higher education to learners wanting to make careers in the field of commerce and industry and will complement the existing accredited qualifications on offer. It will also provide skills and knowledge relating to the functions and management of a retail business and the key issues associated with understanding retail trading and retail environments.
