Purpose and Rationale

Qualification Overview

Purpose:

The purpose of this qualification is to enable learners to follow a career in Information Technology specifically related to the design of business solutions, using technology, to address the skills demand in industry and to enable graduates to enter the industry as business solution specialists.

Qualification Design:

  • The qualification supports the logical progression of learning throughout by introducing learners to basic concepts, theories, and fundamental knowledge in the first year and progressing to more complex skills in the second and third years.
  • It facilitates critical learning through exposure to specialized learning areas supported by relevant IT and business areas.
  • Two distinct knowledge tracks are developed: information technology and business practice, which merge in the third year.
  • Practical work is emphasized in the second and third years for learners to apply theoretical knowledge and test solutions.
  • The qualification focuses on solution design and consultation, not on technical solution development.

Information Technology Track:

  • Covers various aspects of IT on an introductory to intermediate level.
  • Introduces problem-solving, program design, network architecture, databases, and business information systems.
  • Aims to provide a full understanding of IT as an enabler for business to formulate IT solutions for business challenges.

Business Practice Track:

  • Equips learners with knowledge of how businesses function and critical factors for business success.
  • Includes topics like finance, economics, business practice, and management principles.
  • Progressively incorporates more complex topics from the second and third year and emphasizes application and testing of solution designs.

Both tracks are integrated in the second and third years through modules like Business Analysis Project and Business Analysis, aligning with key areas specified in the BABOK for students to pursue CBAP® certification exams.
