Purpose:

The purpose of this qualification is to equip learners with skills and knowledge in creative digital arts that will enable them to work effectively in the digital arts industry. A qualified learner will be able to:

  • Access, process, and communicate information using a range of technologies.
  • Demonstrate critical analytic competence in problem-solving.
  • Demonstrate research, self-management, and ecosystematic competence.

Rationale:

The Bachelor of Arts in Digital Arts is designed to provide learners with creative digital art skills that will widely expose them to the creative digital arts industry. This qualification focuses on design practice, system thinking, and project implementation that will prepare learners to work effectively in the technological arena. Digital arts include digital games and are a significant part of the entertainment industry alongside film, television, music, and theatre. They also find a place in museums of modern art and university curricula at some of the world's most respected universities.

This qualification offers a great opportunity to involve people who have limited access to high-technology environments in the production of art. It enables a diverse range of learners to access the qualification content regardless of previous exposure to technological forms. Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 1:

  • Identify a range of historical and ideological positions within text and other data.
  • Develop appropriate database search strategies and selection criteria.
  • Collect, select, organize, and interpret different kinds of data and professional practices.
  • Represent own position in relation to debates and practices.
  • Conduct critical evaluation of texts and data, images, performance practice, digital practice, and games.
  • Utilize effective oral, written, and visual argumentation skills in relation to ludic production.
  • Deliver verbal and written presentations on complex technical subjects.
  • Communicate own lines of inquiry within the discipline.
  • Demonstrate appropriate written and creative conventions and evidence of effective written communication in research reports and problem solving.

  • Interpret and critique the subject matter of a discipline.
  • Integrate information and practice to solve problems.
  • Recognize limitations of different theoretical models and professional practices.
  • Design synthesis written, visual, games clearly articulated to sustained argument.
  • Suggest and apply critical and innovative approaches in the scholarly and professional field.

Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 3:

  • Understand various media and genres of non-digital games.
  • Identify different ways in which non-digital games create meaning.
  • Understand the history and value of non-digital games in the game design process.
  • Familiarize with advantages and constraints of various media and genres related to game play and content.
  • Produce a fully playable prototype of an analogue game.
  • Apply theory and case studies of selected games in designing a game.

Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 4:

  • Use appropriate written and ludic conventions for small scale research projects and creative work.
  • Apply appropriate research methods.
  • Establish a pattern of goal setting and time management with minimal supervision.
  • Take initiative in shaping own learning situation and direction in creative practice.
  • Apply research to relevant social and ecosystematic contexts.

Integrated Assessment:

  • Assessment based on the institution and faculty's principles.
  • Communication of qualification specific assessment criteria, rules, and regulations to learners.
  • Observation of real or simulated tasks.
  • Evaluation of product after task completion.

Formative Assessment:

  • Assessment during the learning and teaching process.
  • Varies depending on the module and level offered.

Summative Assessment:

  • Conducted to judge the level of competence in relation to Exit Level Outcomes.
  • Results expressed as a pass or fail mark.
  • Minimum number of summative opportunities required as per Academic Regulations.
