Purpose and Rationale

Professional Development Program in Immuno-Haematology

The Professional Development Program in Immuno-Haematology is designed to equip participants with the necessary educational knowledge, skills, principles, and methods to function effectively as professional research scientists in immunology, molecular biology, or immunohaematology laboratories. Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to actively engage in routine diagnostic testing in these specialized areas.

Key Learning Objectives:

  1. Immunology Foundations: Understand the principles of immunology, including immune responses, antibodies, antigens, and immunological techniques used in research and diagnostics.

  2. Molecular Biology Techniques: Gain proficiency in molecular biology techniques relevant to immuno-haematology, such as PCR, gene expression analysis, and sequencing.

  3. Laboratory Skills: Develop hands-on skills in laboratory techniques specific to immuno-haematology, including blood typing, cross-matching, and antibody screening.

  4. Diagnostic Testing: Learn to conduct routine diagnostic tests using immunological and molecular biology methods, interpret results, and report findings accurately.

  5. Quality Control and Assurance: Understand the importance of quality control and assurance in laboratory testing, including calibration, validation, and troubleshooting procedures.

  6. Professional Conduct: Demonstrate professionalism in laboratory settings, including adherence to ethical standards, safety protocols, and effective communication with colleagues and supervisors.

INTEGRATED ASSESSMENT

Competence is achieved through continuous assessment by demonstrating the ability to achieve the outcomes of the Qualification.

  • Activity-based evaluation
  • Formative evaluation
  • Evaluation based on learning contexts that offer opportunities for cooperation (group work) and individual learning
  • Theory and practice integrated
  • Formal end evaluations
  • Continuing, formal evaluations
  • Continuing, informal evaluations

Assessment documents are moderated to ensure that:

  • They conform to the scope and context of the competency as stipulated in the qualification
  • They are constructed in such a way that the Assessor assesses the critical outcomes applied during the Learner's activity performances towards achieving an outcome.

Assessments are:

  • To include confirmation of the Embedded Knowledge component to ensure that the Foundational Competency is achieved.
  • To be verified by Internal Verifiers to ensure valid, credible, true, and fair results.
