Purpose and Rationale

  • Equip students with a comprehensive set of specialised and focussed performance skills.
  • Extend and deepen students' technical skills and knowledge of the repertoire related to their chosen instrument or voice.
  • Provide opportunities for students to shape their performing skills at a high level of artistic fulfilment.
  • Ensure that South Africa has a sufficient number of specialist music practitioners.

Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate high level of technical and performance skills in a relevant field.
  2. Analyse, express and justify an individual interpretation of the chose works to be performed.
  3. Work with others as a member of an instrumental ensemble or theatre production and be a responsible participant in the performance.
  4. Knowledge of relevant repertoire for the chosen instrument or voice.
  5. Demonstrate advanced technical and solo skills with regard to the chosen instrument or voice, demonstrating a high level of professionalism.
  6. Demonstrate specialised knowledge and skills which include the interpretation and evaluation of different musical editions, historical practice and stylistic approaches.

  • Creative performance and technical skills: Students are expected to demonstrate their creative abilities and technical skills during practical public performances.

  • High degree of proficiency: Students must show a high level of proficiency in applying the specific skills taught in their practical performances.

  • Integrated Assessment: Public performances serve as a platform for students to showcase their ability to integrate the practical skills and academic knowledge acquired throughout all previous modules. This assessment method allows for a holistic evaluation of the students' overall competence.
