Purpose and Rationale
Qualification Overview
Purpose:
The major purpose of this qualification is to provide a career-oriented, educational programme that will develop health practitioners on a theoretical, practical and evidence-based foundation for the delivery of safe, effective, evidence-based health care. It will further prepare them to deliver quality practice of Nursing Administration in a health care environment.
Rationale:
Nursing Administration is a specialist field that focuses on Health Service Management and Administration. The Health Service Managers will be able to deal with contemporary legal and ethical management issues, create culture sensitive work environments, deal with the shortage of health professionals and develop the ability to identify and interpret issues in shaping the future of health care services. The qualification will provide the qualifying student (the Professional Nursing Practitioner) with the further development of his/her intellectual, practical and reflective competencies/abilities (knowledge, skills, attitudes and values) as a Nursing Service Manager to promote the health of the individual, family, group and community as an active member of the inter-sectoral, multi-professional and multi- disciplinary health teams.

- Apply the leadership theory and development of critical leadership skills necessary for success of health care environment.
- Demonstrate ability to conduct a research project.
Assessment Criteria
Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 1:
- Implement critical thinking skills to identify and solve problems in healthcare planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Demonstrate an understanding of how the healthcare delivery system functions and where it may fail.
- Exhibit a high quality of decision-making skills.
Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 2:
- Apply essential competencies for nursing leadership, including:
- Professionalism
- Business Skills and Principles
- Knowledge of Health Care Environment
- Communication and Relationship Management
- Transformational Leadership
- Work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team.
- Participate in policy development.
Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 3:
- Write a research proposal for implementation.
- Describe various research approaches and designs as they relate to nursing practice.
- Review relevant literature on nursing-related topics.
Integrated Assessment:
- Submit one written assignment (20%)
- Write one test (30%)
- Give oral presentation (10%)
- Write one 3-hour examination (40%) at the end of the semester.
- Receive written and oral individual and group feedback for each formative task.
- Obtain a minimum of 40% in formative assessment to be admitted to the final examination (summative assessment).
- Final pass mark is 50%.
- Research project examined by 1 internal examiner and 1 external examiner.
