Purpose and Rationale
Qualification in Food and Nutrition
Purpose: The qualification aims to provide a thorough education in Food and Nutrition, enabling graduates who are already health professionals to work in a collaborative, interdisciplinary, and participatory manner to address health, food, and nutrition issues within the community and public sector.
Rationale: This qualification is designed to meet the specific developmental needs of the Southern African region, particularly in addressing the prevalent nutrition challenges. In the rural areas, issues such as undernutrition among children under five and overnutrition among the adult population are prevalent. The Limpopo Province, in particular, faces a dual challenge of malnutrition, poverty, and high unemployment rates among women. Graduates of this program will be equipped to develop and implement nutrition intervention strategies to combat these pressing issues and contribute to the overall improvement of nutrition-related problems in the region.

Integrated Assessment:
- Candidates will be assessed through tests, assignments, presentations, project reports, and written examinations at the end of each semester.
- The research project will be assessed by internal and external examiners at the end of the year (summative assessment).
