Purpose and Rationale

Qualification Overview

Purpose:

  • Learners meeting the requirements of this qualification will be positioned to assume entry-level responsibilities within the business and commerce environment in a chosen area of specialization.
  • Enable valuable contribution to business through the integrated use and application of business, commerce, and financial theory and practice.
  • Position learners to further their learning in other aspects of the broader disciplines of commerce.

Upon qualifying learners will be able to:

  • Demonstrate understanding of essential management competencies such as planning, organizing, decision-making, teamwork, and communication.
  • Demonstrate understanding of business management requirements through the application of concepts and theories.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the relationship between management and business operations, processes, and systems in terms of operational efficiency impact.
  • Investigate the role of information systems and administration in supporting the management function.

Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 2:

  • Accurately record business transactions for financial statement completion.
  • Prepare financial statements according to accounting principles and standards.
  • Solve financial problems in the business environment using financial techniques, interpreting, and evaluating financial statements.
  • Perform mathematical calculations related to financial accounting and financial management for decision-making support.
  • Evaluate financial records using internal auditing principles for good governance and legislative compliance.
  • Communicate financial information in the required format to meet specified needs.

  • Develop a business research problem and proposal for supervised research.
  • Collect, analyze, and evaluate data to assess business scenarios using research principles.
  • Use academic and professional business conventions and formats to compile and present a work-integrated research project.
  • Utilize research principles and methods to investigate and report on business needs and requirements in a specific management specialization area.

Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 6:

  • Demonstrate awareness of essential components of effective strategy development for a selected management specialization area.
  • Analyze and interpret specific interdisciplinary knowledge, skills, and competencies for a selected business specialization area.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of interdisciplinary knowledge, skills, and competencies to support regulatory compliance in a required context.
  • Contextualize relevant interdisciplinary principles and theory to investigate and evaluate a work-related project in a selected management specialization area.

Integrated Assessment:

Assessment practices must be open, transparent, fair, valid, and reliable to ensure no learner is disadvantaged. An integrated assessment approach is incorporated into the Qualification, utilizing formative and summative assessment methods and tools appropriate to the learner's working context.
