The Bachelor of Science Honours in Geology aims to:

Rationale:

South Africa's rich mineral and natural reserves highlight the need for professional, competent, and skilled geologists to lead the sector locally, within the Southern African Development Community (SADC), and internationally. Training local geologists to locate, mine, process, and remediate sites efficiently is crucial for sustainable development. By equipping local professionals with the necessary skills, the mining sector can reduce its reliance on foreign experts and enhance its global competitiveness.

This qualification is designed to provide advanced geological education at the Bachelor of Science Honours level, focusing on improving learners' personal attributes and creating opportunities for lifelong learning, Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), marketability, and employability.
