Purpose and Rationale

Learning Objectives:

  1. Techniques for Business Decisions: Teach learners various techniques and a scientific approach for making business decisions in the increasingly complex modern business environment.

  2. Quantitative Methods: Train and acquaint learners with commonly used quantitative methods in management accounting to better analyze and interpret data.

  3. Professional Advancement: Prepare learners for further advancement in their cost and management accounting profession, such as becoming a Chartered Management Accountant.

  4. Management Information Systems: Equip learners with the necessary skills to design and manage Information Systems effectively in a business setting.

Outcomes

  1. Ability to fulfill an active role in the management team by ensuring effective formative strategy, planning, budgeting and financial management.
  2. Ability to manage change in the enterprise. Specify critical cross-field outcomes:
  3. Identify, analyse, formulate and solve problems in which responses display that responsible decisions using critical and creative thinking have been made.
  4. Working effectively with others as a member of a team, group, organisation and community.
  5. Organising and managing oneself and one's activities responsibly and effectively.
  6. Using science and technology effectively and critically showing responsibility towards the environment and health of others.
  7. Communicating using visual aids, mathematical and language skills in the modes of the oral and or written persuasion.

  9. Solve problems by means of exploring, and critically evaluating abstract and personal situations.
  10. Solve problems by generating alternative strategies for dealing with those problems. Specific outcomes:
  11. Think contextually, and reflects on learning from individual experience and academic disciplines in relation to political, social, cultural, technological and economic realities, locally and globally.
  12. Think and do business or conduct oneself in public in a professional manner. Associated assessment outcomes:
  13. Relate learning from individual experience to knowledge encountered in an academic environment and vice versa.

Assessment Criteria

  • Qualification is awarded on successful completion of all the prescribed modules to year 3.
  • The following formative and summative continuous assessments apply:
    • Examinations: 30%
    • Assignment/class work: 20%
    • Group Project: 50%
  • Integrated assessment incorporated to ensure that the purpose of the degree is achieved:
    • Written examinations
    • Oral examinations
    • Other: Group Projects, Assignments.
