Purpose and Rationale

Purpose:

The purpose of the Honours degree is to provide a higher level of expertise valued by employers, giving graduates a competitive edge in the job market. It serves as a stepping stone towards research-based higher degrees like MPhil, MCom, PhD, or DCom. Rationale:

Honours provides an upward articulation pathway for motivated undergraduate students seeking further intensive and structured independent study. This one-year, full-time programme is tailored to offer selected students advanced study in specialized business areas within the Faculty of Business and Economics and to cultivate the ability to conduct advanced business-related research.

Outcomes

  2. Demonstrate an informed and critical understanding of the theory and research methodology of one or more disciplines/fields including extensive grounding in empirical, theoretical, practical, and research methodologies and an understanding of the key research issues in these areas.

  4. Undertake research in an area of specialisation by selecting and applying research methods effectively.
  5. Deal with complex problems using the intellectual research and technological resources and tools relevant to a particular discipline or field.
  6. Communicate research activities and findings using the appropriate discourse.   • Evaluation and critique of theories regarding the field of study

  • Demonstration of insight into key research issues in the field of study
  • Appropriate identification and solving of problems and issues in the discipline/field
  • Planning and conducting of appropriate research in the field including gathering, analyzing, synthesizing, and interpreting information utilizing relevant theoretical research principles
  • Analysis and critique of current research and scholarship in the discipline

  • Demonstration of understanding of the grounds, theory, science, and methods of knowledge
