Purpose and Rationale

The purpose of the qualification is to train learners to play a dynamic role in professions related to economic policy and transformation. This includes preparation for employment in government, NGOs focusing on development issues, and professions such as journalism or higher education that require critical perspectives on economic transformation. Additionally, the qualification aims to create a cohort of learners eligible to pursue postgraduate studies in areas like Development Studies, Public Administration, and Economics.

Assessment Criteria

  • Task: Analyse a case study related to the module content, applying theoretical concepts and proposing practical solutions.
  • Outcome: Showcase the application of theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios, problem-solving skills, and presenting well-structured solutions.

Assignment 3: Group Project

  • Task: Collaborate with a team to manage a research project on a chosen topic, including conducting research, analysing data, and presenting findings.
  • Outcome: Develop skills in teamwork, project management, and communication, while demonstrating a deep understanding of the chosen topic through the integration of diverse perspectives.

Final Assessment: Research Paper

  • Task: Write a research paper on a specialised topic within the module descriptor, incorporating insights from assignments and additional research.
  • Outcome: Showcasing specialised scholastic and research skills, including text comprehension, accessing relevant sources, identifying and addressing research problems, presenting theoretical and practical solutions, and demonstrating a high level of academic proficiency.

Integrated Assessment:

  • The Continuous Assessment System includes multiple assessment events throughout the year.
