Purpose and Rationale

The program aims to provide graduates with specialized knowledge in Environmental Science through in-depth study and to equip them with practical and applied research methodology skills. Graduates will develop the ability to solve problems independently and in teams, as well as to compare and evaluate information from different sources and sub-disciplines to make informed decisions.

Furthermore, the program focuses on developing students' competence in oral presentations and effective communication in spoken and written English for both expert and non-expert audiences. The goal is to produce graduates who can contribute to society in various ways in both the public and private sectors with their specialized knowledge in Environmental Sciences.

Assessment Criteria for Environmental Science Programme:

Modules:

  • Pass required number of modules in Environmental Science
  • Assessment criteria for examinations: accuracy, lucidity, reasoning, and drawing conclusions
  • Assessment criteria for assignments: gathering, interpreting information/data, punctuality, and presentation efficiency

Honours Research Project:

  • Submit a satisfactory Honours research project
  • Criteria for assessment:
    • Understanding theoretical principles and relating them to the research problem
    • Selection and execution of appropriate methodology
    • Accuracy of factual material
    • Sound reasoning leading to sensible conclusions
    • Appropriate reference to other relevant studies
    • Ability to assess strengths, weaknesses, and value of work in the discipline context
    • Written and oral presentation of a suitable standard

Demonstration of Outcomes:

  • Logical and coherent writing in essays, assignments, and reports
  • Contribution to class discussions
  • Satisfactory oral presentations to peer groups
