The goal of the Entomology program is to equip graduates with the necessary knowledge and skills to meet international academic standards and facilitate professional registration in the field of entomology. Upon completion of the program, graduates will possess the expertise required to make valuable contributions to vocational and academic endeavors both locally (Southern Africa) and globally.

Supervised Research Projects: Successfully completed supervised research projects showcasing proficiency in learning outcomes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7.
Formal Examination of Contextual Knowledge: Excelled in formal examinations demonstrating understanding at the appropriate level of module-specific subject matter related to learning outcomes 2 and 5.
Specialized Modules: Completed specialized modules focusing on specific techniques and methods essential for each stream, aligning with learning outcome 3.
Review Essay and Seminars: Participated in review essays and seminars, showcasing proficiency in learning outcomes 4 and 5.
Capstone Modules: The independent research project, review essay, and seminars collectively comprise about 60% of the credit total and serve as capstone modules, assessing the integration of knowledge and skills acquired throughout the program.
Assessment Strategies: The University of Natal is in the process of reforming assessment strategies to include the assessment of applied competence. Currently, a combination of continuous assessment and traditional written examinations assess the integration of learning outcomes for each module.
Research Project Proposal: Orally presented, accounting for 10% of 64 credits.
Research Project Outcome Report (Written): Accounting for 10% of 64 credits.
Research Project Outcome Report (Oral): Orally presented, contributing to 70% of 64 credits.
Integrative Review Essay (Written): Accounting for 10% of 64 credits.
Research Project Proposal (Written): Accounting for 100% of 8 credits, demonstrating comprehensive understanding and application of research methodologies.
