Purpose and Rationale

Qualification Objectives:

  • Develop proficiency in the theory and practice of management through a knowledge of:

    • The complexity of management and employee relationships within the organizations.
    • The relationship between the organization and its environment (social, political, legal, economics and ecological).
    • The functional disciplines within the organization and their contribution to organizational success.
  • Develop an understanding of the need for effective communication systems in management.

  • Develop an understanding of current and contemporary legal and technical developments and how they impinge on the management function.

  • Develop an understanding of the strategic role of management.

  • Develop an awareness of ethical issues pertaining to corporate governance and management practice.

  • Build a foundation for further studies in management and entrepreneurship.

  • Develop skills to share knowledge and assist in the development of others.

Outcomes

  1. Learning to reason critically and exploring solutions to practical management problems.
  2. Work effectively with others as team members by working together in teams in order to meet group objectives and managing and evaluating their work to meet the requirements of the group.
  3. Communicate effectively on technical issues about management theory and practice.
  4. Use technology effectively in the management function.
  5. Have a clear understanding of the practical implications of an ethical approach in the management function.
  6. Understand the nature and practice of academic research.
  7. Contribute to self-development by practising essential life skills through group interaction, verbal and written critiques and formal presentations.

Assessment Criteria

Associated Assessment Criteria:

Integrated Assessment:

The institution is currently reforming its assessment strategies to include the assessment of applied competence for each qualification. In the meantime, a combination of continuous assessment and traditional written examinations serve to assess the integration of all/most of the learning outcomes for each module in a qualification.

  • Continuous Assessment:

    • Assignments and projects comprise the year mark (worth 30% of the total mark) for the specific modules for levels 5b and 6.
    • Class presentations, participation in class discussion, and assignments for each module comprise the year mark (worth 50% of the total mark) at level 7.
  • Final Assessment:

    • An examination for each module worth 70% at levels 5b and 6 and 50% at the level.
