Purpose and Rationale

This qualification aims to provide qualified learners with knowledge, skills and applied competence in several fields related to design, development and use of digital technologies in research, e-commerce, education and training.

The qualification is designed to develop advanced skills and insights into the following areas:

  1. The theoretical base and use of software tools to support research activities, including reference management, debates technology, and quantitative and qualitative research methodologies.

  2. Educational theories, design principles, and communication tools required for the creation of virtual online learning environments and distance education.

  3. Theoretical and practical aspects required for the production of digital media, including graphics, animations, video, and paper-based resources, as well as the creation of computer user interfaces.

  4. Management of IT resources, such as networks, Internet servers, and online educational resources.

  5. Research investigations, methodologies, design, and reporting in the use of digital technologies in commerce, information technology, education, and training.

The qualification also aims to provide qualified learners with the foundations for continued personal and intellectual growth, gainful economic activity, and for contributing to society at large through innovation, scholarship, and leadership.

Outcomes

  1. Undertake and report research in scientifically acceptable ways and to evaluate the validity of the information.
  2. Demonstrate severa technical skills related to the creation of digital media.
  3. Work effectively as a team member in group activities.
  4. Develop skills to enhance learning by organising time and tasks effectively and explore a range of different strategies and use of information retrieval and communication techniques (time and project management skills).
  5. Communicate effectively (written, orally and visually) using appropriate terminology.
  6. Demonstrate professional and responsible behaviour when participating in on-line discussions and evaluations.
  7. Become more actively involved in the learning process through participating in open discussions, group work and reading around the subject.
  8. Acquire professional attitudes and behaviour.
  9. Become increasingly aware of career opportunities available in the field of information technology.
  10. Identify and manage technical problems.
  11. Correct and report technical problems.

    • The successful completion of projects within deadlines will demonstrate the ability to undertake tasks effectively.
  • Master the use of computer technology:

    • Proficiency in using computer technology for investigations and report writing is essential and will be evaluated.

    • The candidate's ability to critically evaluate information will be assessed in various assessments.
  • Reflect on abilities and skills:

    • Reflection on personal abilities and skills will be encouraged and assessed throughout the programme.
  • Professional behavior:

    • Diligent, courteous, and professional behavior is expected at all times and will be taken into account during assessments.

    • Assessment will focus on integrating theory, research design, methodologies, and technical skills.
