Graduate-level Knowledge and Skills: The qualification aims to equip qualifiers with advanced knowledge, skills, and competencies in Clinical Nutrition, Community Nutrition, and Foodservice Management. This prepares them for economic opportunities while fostering personal and professional growth.
Addressing Nutritional Issues: Another goal is to produce a significant number of graduates in South Africa who possess the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitudes to tackle nutritional challenges within society. This includes promoting good nutrition, managing health-related nutrition issues, and preventing malnutrition.
Holistic Competence: The qualification is designed to ensure that graduates are proficient in assessing, interpreting, planning, managing, implementing, and evaluating various aspects of Dietetics and Nutrition. A problem-solving approach is emphasized to address complex issues in the field effectively.
Integrated Assessment: Formative assessment is provided through tasks, assignments, tutorials, and case studies. These activities help students practice and apply their knowledge throughout the course. Formative assessments also provide feedback to students and instructors to monitor progress and identify areas for improvement.
Summative Assessment: Summative assessment is provided through assignments, oral examinations, written examinations at the end of each module, and a research project in the fourth year. These assessments test the overall understanding and mastery of the subject matter and are often used to determine grades or progression to the next level of study. The research project in the fourth year allows students to demonstrate their ability to conduct independent research and present their findings effectively.
