Purpose:

The purpose of the qualification is to:

  1. Prepare students for a career as professional psychology counsellors.
  2. Equip students with policy making and research skills with respect to the field of psychology.
  3. Ensure and nurture sound theoretical, ethical, and practical approaches in the psychology profession.

Rationale:

The rationale for the development and implementation of the programme is to:

  1. Provide students with a professional qualification to become registered counsellors.
  2. Orientate them to the various theoretical and practical approaches within the field of counselling/clinical psychology.
  3. Nurture in students, through the study of social scientific knowledge and research skills, innovative, creative, and critical skills required to improve the quality of life of society.

Integrated Assessment

The assessment strategy for this course covers a variety of options to demonstrate and provide evidence of practice, aligning with the anticipated outcomes and assessment criteria. These assessment methods include:

  • Case studies: Analyzing real-life scenarios to showcase problem-solving skills.
  • Problem-solving assignments: Applying learned concepts to solve practical problems.
  • Simulated and in situ practice: Engaging in simulated exercises and real-life situations to demonstrate competence.
  • Projects: Undertaking two or more work-based projects to apply learning and insights gained from core modules.
  • Written and oral presentations: Showcasing communication skills and comprehension in both written and spoken formats.
  • Self, peer, and tutor assessment: Reflecting on one's own performance, assessing peers, and receiving feedback from tutors.
  • Assignments and/or examinations: Providing evidence of the ability to apply theoretical knowledge to practical situations.
  • Psychological assessment case study: Applying psychological assessment tools to a specific case study.
