Business, Commerce and Management Studies - Finance Economics and Accounting
The purpose of the qualification is to broaden the learners' commercial knowledge within a business framework so as to develop a thorough understanding of management theory as well as the skills necessary to apply the theory. The qualification will prepare learners for entry into, or development of existing careers in management and leadership in the private and public sectors. Specifically, the qualification aims to provide learners with a practical, work-related orientation which draws upon a sound theoretical base; frameworks within which a broad understanding of the commerce discipline is examined; holistic view of organizations, their environment and functioning; and commerce's role therein; recognize that learners, as managers in both private and public sector organizations, need to be able to deal with a rapidly changing environment; emphasize the importance of team work by learners; and focus on the development of personal skills and competencies in commerce and management.
The qualification provides a broad understanding of the theoretical approaches to specific core disciplines in Commerce, as well as the integrated application of this knowledge to the world of work.
To demonstrate a critical mind in learners in the evaluation of business situations and suggested solutions, students can be tasked with analyzing real-world case studies where they need to identify key issues, evaluate different perspectives, and propose practical solutions. This exercise encourages students to think critically, consider various options, and justify their recommendations based on sound reasoning and evidence.
Making connections across management disciplines can be achieved through interdisciplinary projects or assignments that require students to apply knowledge and concepts from different areas such as marketing, finance, operations, and human resources to solve complex business problems. By working on projects that cut across various management disciplines, students develop a holistic understanding of how different functions within an organization are interconnected and impact each other.
Understanding and utilizing modern technology in terms of conceptual tools and techniques can be integrated into coursework by incorporating simulation exercises, data analysis projects, or using software tools for decision-making.
