Purpose and Rationale

The primary purpose of this qualification is to provide qualifying learners with:

Practical Competence:

  • Demonstrate translation skills
  • Showcase research skills
  • Utilize cognitive skills
  • Design and evaluate curricula with a Greek focus

Foundational Competence:

  • Analyze and interpret skills
  • Formulate and communicate in Modern Greek (both orally and in writing)
  • Analyze texts

Reflexive Competence:

  • Engage in innovative and creative thinking
  • Practice reflective thinking in the field of Greek language, culture, and literature

Outcomes

  1. Solve text critical problems, also in the form of research articles, based on relating knowledge and theories. Reflect on their own ability in problem solving and identification in the field of Greek studies, with full understanding and knowledge of their chosen approach.
  2. Solve text problems and to work with other postgraduate leaners and lecturers in Greek, in order to promote research (seminars), based on relevant knowledge of theories.
  3. Do independent research, based on relevant research methodology, and reflect on the process of their own research and the research of other researchers.
  4. Do basic and medium research work, including research in the fields of Greek linguistics, phi logy and culture (history). Reflect on the success of their own research and the research of others.
  5. Communicate orally and in writing, at an advanced level (in the case of Modern Greek), and communicate their knowledge and science by using visual and technical methods, where necessary.
  6. Demonstrate a sound knowledge of specialised literature and have the skills to find and use literature.
  7. Demonstrate a sound sensitivity in the fields of Greek aesthetics.
  8. Learners' knowledge of Greek democracy (and its evolution) should be able to strengthen their responsibilities as citizens allowing them to reflect on democratic values.
  9. Improve employment skills in the field of languages, translation and (in the case of Ancient Greek) theology.
  10. Display their knowledge in the field of Greek language and culture effectively and appropriately.

    • Have the skills to write research articles in an appropriate manner.
  5. Translation Technique:

    • Display a sound translation technique.
  6. Specialised Literature Knowledge:

    • Reveal detailed knowledge of specialised literature.
  7. Aesthetic Sensitivity in Greek Studies:

    • Display a sound aesthetic sensitivity in the field of Greek studies.
  8. Citizenship Knowledge and Experience:

    • Have knowledge and experience to become a better citizen.
  9. Language Skills in Greek:

    • Display sound language skills in ancient/Christian and/or Modern Greek.
  10. Effective Display of Greek Language and Culture Knowledge:

    • Display knowledge in the field of Greek language and culture effectively and appropriately.

Integrated Assessment:

  • Formative Assessment Practices:

    • Essays, seminars, translation exercises, and presentations will be utilized for formative assessment.
  • Summative Assessment Practices:

    • Integrated assessment will focus on achieving the exit-level outcomes.
    • Four written examinations, each lasting 3 hours, and one research essay will be part of the summative assessment.
    • Examinations will be scheduled during the institution's exam session in June, November, and January.
