Purpose and Rationale

The qualification will:

  1. Equip qualifiers with problem-solving skills to enhance management, governance, and policy-making processes that are accountable, ethical, equitable, and sustainable.

  2. Produce a substantial number of (honours) qualified learners in management and governance to expand South Africa's pool of local leaders engaged in innovative and knowledge-based economic and scholarly pursuits.

Outcomes

  1. Identify, analyse and solve public sector problems systematically and creatively.
  2. Acquire an understanding of how to manage resources and processes in a public context.
  3. Communicate effectively, in oral and written modes, and to articulate and promote their own ideas and interests.
  4. Understand and contribute to the socio-economic challenges of developing South Africa ethically and responsibly.
  5. Appreciate that policy-making contributes to the development government at the local, regional and national levels.

Assessment Criteria

The following associated assessment criteria apply across all Exit Level Outcomes:

  • Solve public sector problems systematically and creatively through problem identification and analysis
  • Manage resources and processes in a public context and demonstrate sound understanding
  • Articulate and promote one's ideas and interests via effective oral and written communications
  • Demonstrate the contribution to Government by sound policy developing competencies by producing sample policies.

Integrated Assessment:

The institution has adopted a Continuous Assessment System. The assessment consists of several assessment events administered throughout the year and a variety of assessment instruments are used (for example, tests, essays and practical reports, project reports).
