Purpose:
The purpose of the Bachelor of Arts is to enable learners to master a systematic and coherent body of knowledge. Learners will have an understanding of underlying discipline-related theories, concepts, and principles. Additionally, the purpose of this qualification is to provide learners with knowledge and understanding of selected fields in Arts, which include methodological approaches and theoretical orientations applied to the South African context.
Rationale:
The design and selected specialisation combinations of this qualification consideration enable accessibility, employment possibilities, and to meet the labour needs of our country. Learners will be able to articulate into a professional initial teacher education qualification. Additionally, learners will have integrated knowledge of theory, principles, and skills regarding a career in the field of Arts while it also prepares learners for further study at NQF Level 8.
Integrated Assessment: According to the Assessment and Moderation Policy of the University, the Exit Level Outcomes and Associated Assessment Criteria are developed in alignment with the SAQA Level Descriptors. These descriptors serve as guiding principles for assessment practices for learners.
In the third year of this qualification, it is required that at least one opportunity for integrated assessment is provided. This integrated assessment should incorporate the evaluation of the primary purpose and key outcomes of the various specializations within the internal qualification. By including assessment activities that cover different specializations, this ensures a comprehensive evaluation of the student's knowledge and skills across all relevant areas of study.
