Purpose and Rationale

The purposes of the qualification are as follows:

  1. Prepare for PAAB Examination: Providing learners with the necessary academic requirements to write Part I of the Final Qualifying Examination of the Public Accounts and Auditors Board (PAAB).

  2. Develop Postgraduate Level Knowledge: Enabling learners to acquire postgraduate level knowledge, discipline-specific skills, and applied competence in Commerce and Industry. This will offer opportunities for personal intellectual growth, gainful employment, and a valuable contribution to society.

  3. Empower Problem-solving Skills: Empowering postgraduates to solve commercial problems effectively in a general and focused manner. This includes managing allocated resources efficiently, communicating effectively, and contributing to socio-economic transformation responsibly and ethically.

  4. Increase Commerce Postgraduates: Providing South Africa with a significant number of commerce postgraduates, especially from disadvantaged communities. This will help strengthen and diversify the leadership base involved in innovative, knowledge-based economic activities and scholarly endeavors.

Outcomes

  1. Display specialised scholastic and basic research skills in an Economic and Management Sciences discipline.
  2. Demonstrate the ability to identify, analyse and solve commercial problems in a systematic, critical and creative way.
  3. Acquire a specialised understanding of how to manage resources and processes in a business context.
  4. Communicate effectively, in oral and written modes, and to articulate and promote own ideas and interests.
  5. Understand and contribute to the socio-economic challenges of developing South Africa ethically and responsibly.
  6. Meet the academic requirement by SAICA and the PAAB.
