Purpose and Rationale

The qualification aims to produce a Land Surveying learner who possesses the following skills and knowledge:

a) Professional Competency:

  • Ability to work effectively in a professional setting.
  • Skills necessary for managing a business.
  • Application of legal principles in land surveying.
  • Adherence to professional norms and ethics.

b) Academic Requirements:

  • Fulfillment of the academic criteria for registration with the South African Council for Professional and Technical Surveyors.
  • Demonstration of competency in relevant theoretical knowledge and practical skills required for professional and technical surveying.

By attaining these competencies, the learner will be equipped to excel in the field of Land Surveying, meeting both industry standards and regulatory requirements set by relevant professional bodies.

Integrated Assessment:

The institution is currently reforming its assessment strategies to include the assessment of applied competence for each qualification. In the meantime, a combination of continuous assessment and traditional written examinations serve to assess the integration of all/most of the learning outcomes for each module in a qualification. The assessment methods include:

  1. Practical and simulated projects.
  2. Practical and simulated projects.
  3. Examination and practical projects.
  4. Examination and seminar presentations.
  5. Examination and simulated tutorial projects.
