Purpose and Rationale

The qualification aims to produce learners who possess the following skills and attributes:

  • Logical Thinking: Capable of logical thought, analysis, and synthesis when dealing with property and construction problems.

  • Basic Techniques: Able to apply basic techniques from economics, business management, health and safety, and environmental protection perspectives to property and construction-related issues.

  • Project Management: Skilled in costing, planning, and managing projects, while also offering design assistance.

  • Effective Communication: Capable of communicating effectively and acting professionally and ethically.

  • Academic Requirements: Meets the academic standards for registration with the Council of South African Quantity Surveyors.

    • Criteria: Assessed based on performance in practical work, whether done independently or in a team
  5. Knowledge Extension:

    • Assessment Method: Open-ended design projects with oral interrogation, written research dissertations with oral presentations and interrogation
    • Criteria: Extend knowledge through independent study, thought, research, analysis, and design

Integrated Assessment

  • The institution is transitioning its assessment strategies to include the assessment of applied competence for each qualification.
  • Currently, a combination of continuous assessment and traditional written examinations is used to assess the integration of all/most of the learning outcomes for each module in a qualification.
