Purpose and Rationale

The qualification will allow the graduate to be a registered independent physiotherapist who:

  1. Applies evidence-based physical and holistic approaches to patient care, incorporating core modalities such as Therapeutic Exercise, Manual therapy, and Electrotherapy.

  2. Utilizes these skills in a curative, rehabilitative, preventative, and promotive manner.

  3. Contributes to planning and implementation of managerial tasks in patient care and in the utilization of department resources.

Assessment Criteria

Integrated Assessment for Courses Comprising the Qualification

  1. Continuous evaluation of professional conduct, cognitive, psychomotor, and affective skills in acute and chronic clinical areas and community settings by self, peers, and supervisors.

  2. Written, practical, oral, and clinical examinations.

Integrated Assessment for the Qualification as a Whole

  1. Continuous evaluation in each subfield of physiotherapy of professional conduct, cognitive, psychomotor, and affective skills in acute and chronic clinical areas and community settings by self, peers, and supervisors.

  2. Evaluation of the management of patients in the subfield of physiotherapy, including assessments, analysis, diagnoses, and treatment.

  3. Evaluation of the application of selected diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

  4. Evaluation of the ability to undertake and complete a research project.

  5. Written, oral, and practical examinations in physiotherapy.

  6. Final examination consists of:

    • 2 x 3-hour theory papers
    • 1 x 1.5-hour evaluation of an unseen patient
    • 1 x 1-hour treatment of the evaluated patient
    • 1 x 1-hour treatment of an unseen patient.
