The purpose of the qualification is to provide learners with postgraduate-level knowledge, skills, and applied competence in the following areas:

Another objective of the qualification is to supply South Africa with a considerable number of Chartered Accountants and Registered Accountants and Auditors, catering to the needs of both the public and private sectors.
Furthermore, the qualification aims to meet the requirements established by the Public Accountants' and Auditors' Board and the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants for individuals to sit for Part I of the National Qualifying Examination administered by the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants.

Code of Professional Conduct of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants and the Public Accountants' and Auditors' Board: Students' understanding of ethical principles and professional conduct in the accounting and auditing profession can be evaluated against these codes.
Statements of Generally Accepted Accounting Practice: Assessing students' ability to apply accounting standards and principles in preparing financial statements and reports.
Accounting and Auditing guidelines: Evaluating students' comprehension of specific guidelines related to accounting and auditing practices.
International Accounting and Auditing guidelines: Assessing students' knowledge of international standards and their ability to apply them in a local context.
International Accounting Standards: Testing students' understanding of global accounting standards and their implications on financial reporting.
South African Auditing Standards: Assessing students' knowledge of auditing practices and procedures in accordance with South African standards.
The Companies Act and reported cases: Evaluating students' understanding of legal requirements and regulations related to companies and reported cases that have set precedents in the industry.
The Close Corporation Act: Assessing students' knowledge of regulations specific to close corporations in South Africa.
Income Tax Law and Cases: Testing students' understanding of income tax laws and their application in accounting practices.
Best practices in Public and Private Sector: Assessing students' knowledge of best practices in both public and private sector accounting and auditing.
These criteria can be assessed through integrated methods such as simulations and written examinations to ensure comprehensive evaluation of the learning outcomes.
