Purpose: The primary purpose of establishing this programme is to provide learning opportunities for successful matriculants who are unable to study full-time. Additionally, it caters to adults, regardless of their employment status. The programme serves as a pathway for students seeking business management studies and employment opportunities. Furthermore, it aims to provide a qualification that meets the admission requirements for RBS's MBA programmes.

Rationale: There is a growing demand for commerce graduates with diverse skill sets to contribute to capacity building and human resource development in management within the Southern African Development Community. The Bachelor of Commerce Degree will equip learners with the necessary skills to thrive in both public and private sector settings. This qualification is designed to meet the career and economic needs of employed individuals and prepare learners for post-graduate studies.

Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcomes:

  1. Communication and Numerical Skills: Students should be able to apply communicative and numerical skills as lifelong learners and researchers.
  2. Business Management Competency: Competently plan, design, and reflect on the areas of business management.
  3. Critical Reading: Read academic and professional texts critically.
  4. Analytical Skills: Apply rational argument, judgement, planning, and decision-making analysis to complex business management problems.
  5. Adaptability: Recognize and respond effectively to social, economic, technological, and political change within organizations in national and international settings.
  6. Business Plans and Reports: Produce and present clear business plans and reports. Critically evaluate the business plans and reports.
  7. Financial Statement Analysis: Analyze, interpret, and make decisions from data contained in the financial statements of companies.

Assessment Weighting:

  • Assignments: 40%
  • Examinations: 60%

Integrated Assessment:

  • Students will be assessed on one assignment and one examination per module.
  • Final mark breakdown: 40% for the assignment and 60% for the examination.
  • Minimum pass requirement: 40% in the written examination.
  • Examinations duration: Two hours.
