Purpose and Rationale

Objective: The primary objective of the qualification is to prepare learners to act as Human Resources Practitioners proficient in designing and implementing Human Resources Management procedures and systems. This includes having a deep understanding and knowledge of various areas of Industrial and Organisational Psychology. Learners are expected to exhibit a professional attitude and adhere to high ethical standards, allowing them to make valuable contributions to their national manpower development policies.

Outcomes

  1. Human Resources qualified learners have a sound knowledge of research methods in Human Resources Management and are able to deliver a written research report of limited scope under supervision. The qualified learners will also be able to utilize the results, conclusions and recommendations of the report to create new knowledge and solve problems in all the application fields of Human Resources Management and Industrial Psychology.
  2. Group Dynamics: Bachelor of Commerce Honours Human Resources graduates will have in-depth knowledge of Group Dynamics methods and are able to design and implement a Group Dynamics programme in the organisation. The qualifying learners will also be able to understand how groups and teams function and influence people to achieve common goals, while the group's work and individual needs are addressed and acquire facilitation and negotiation skills to facilitate all group and team processes in the organisation.
  3. Performance Management: Bachelor of Commerce Honours in Human Resources graduates will have in-depth knowledge of Performance Management and are able to analyse performance problems and design and implement Performance Management procedures and processes. The qualified learner will be able to contribute meaningfully to improving the utilisation of Human Resources, the productivity and overall competitiveness of the organisation.
  4. Career Development and Vocational Psychology: Bachelor of Commerce Honours in Human Resources qualified learner will have in-depth knowledge on Career Development and Vocational Psychology and are able to design and implement individual Career Development programmes. Qualified Learners will also be able to support employees to maintain high levels of work motivation and job satisfaction.
  5. Human Resources Development: Bachelor of Commerce Honours in Human Resources qualified learners will have in-depth knowledge on Human Resources Development and are able to design and implement a human performance enhancement (training and development) process in the organisation. Graduates will be able to improve the performance of employers and the organisation through training and development qualifications.
  6. Managing Diversity: Bachelor of Commerce Honours in Human Resources graduates will have in-depth knowledge of managing a diverse workforce and are able to design and implement a Managing Diversity process in the workplace. Qualified learners will be able to contribute meaningfully to improving mutual respect and tolerance amongst diverse workgroups in organisations.
  7. Labour Relations: The Bachelor of Commerce Honours in Human Resources graduates will have in-depth knowledge of the Labour Relations field and are able to design and implement Labour Relations procedures and processes in the organisation. Graduates will be able to ensure workforce stability and productivity in the organisation.
  8. Psychometrics: The Bachelor of Commerce Honours in Human Resources qualified learners will have in-depth knowledge of Psychometrics and are able to design psychometrical assessment procedures and qualifications to support decision-making in the organisation.

Assessment Criteria

Continuous, formative, and summative assessment practices will be applied in this program. A multi-dimensional approach will be followed to assess the learners in various areas such as Knowledge, Abilities, Thinking processes, Metacognition, and Affect. The cognitive approach to assessment will also be applied, focusing on learners' application and use of knowledge, integration of assessment with learning and training, and cross-disciplinary assessment.

Assessment will include evaluation by the lecturer(s) as well as peer-assessment, resulting in a statement of what the learner has achieved. Assessment criteria will be discussed with the learners to promote cooperative learning and collaborative skills development through group discussions and assignments. Authentic testing, such as case studies, simulations, role plays, and applied questions, will be used to assess learners' ability to apply knowledge in real-life contexts.

Multi-dimensional and cognitive assessments will be combined to assess learners' research competencies. The supervisor and external examiner will assess the following aspects:

  • Ability to identify a suitable research problem.
  • Ability to select and implement appropriate research methods.
  • Critical review of the literature according to scientific practices.
  • Analysis of data using relevant methods.
  • Integration of theoretical knowledge with empirical data.
  • Formulation of relevant conclusions and proposals based on research results.

Integrated assessment methods will include portfolios, written assignments based on case studies, simulations, written and oral examinations, as well as peer group and self-assessment, and classroom presentations.
