Purpose and Rationale

Qualification Purpose:

The main purpose of the qualification is to provide learners with graduate level knowledge, specific skills, and applied competence in the field of Communication Management. This aims to equip individuals with the necessary tools for continued personal intellectual growth, gainful economic activity, and to make rewarding contributions to businesses and society.

Secondary Purposes:

  1. Provide South Africa with a significant number of skilled graduates in Communication Management.
  2. Better equip learners with the knowledge and skills needed to strategically manage communication in the corporate environment.
  3. Present course content that is relevant to and demanded by the South African context.
  4. Enhance the ability to compete effectively on national and international academic, business, and research levels.

Outcomes

  1. Have the basic knowledge and skills required for the corporate communication environment. Master basic critical and creative thinking skills.
  2. Knowledge of organisational communication, team communication, communication skills from business, intercultural and international business communication, corporate communication management, strategic communication management, corporate relationship management and media management will be the basic building blocks to launch the learner on a career in the corporate communication environment.
  3. In depth guidance in corporate communication management, practical implementation of knowledge and the performance dimensions of communication management will be supplied, which equip the learner with skills which can be immediately implemented within the working environment and supplemented by lifelong learning. B Com (Communication Management) Learning outcomes: After the 3-year Degree qualification the learner will have grasped basic computer, communication and language skills. The learner will have mastered basic intra-personal communication, interpersonal communication, group/team communication, organisational communication, public communication, mass communication, intercultural and international communication management skills. Critical cross-field outcomes: The critical cross-field outcomes for the learning programme in Corporate Communication Management are as follows: dIentifying and solving problems in which responses display that responsible decisions using critical and creative thinking have been made### Working effectively with others as a member of a team, group, organisation, community### Organising and managing oneself and one's activities responsibly and effectively### Collecting, analysing, organising and critically evaluating information### Communicating effectively using visual, mathematical and/or language skills in the modes or oral and/or written persuasion### Using science and technology effectively and critically, showing responsibility towards the environment### Demonstrating an understanding of the world as a set of related systems by recognising that problem-solving contexts do not exist in isolation### Contributing to the full personal development of each learner and the social and economic development of the society at large, by making it the underlying intention of any programme of learning to make an individual aware of the importance of:
