Human and Social Studies - General Social Science
The aim of this qualification is to expose learners to disciplines within the Geographical Sciences. It is suited for individuals who wish to obtain a background in Geography and acquire skills necessary to address specific questions faced by civil society.
The primary purpose of this qualification is to equip learners with the necessary research and analytical expertise to process and interpret complex environmental issues that are multi-dimensional in nature.
The secondary purpose is to provide South Africa with a cadre of young experts in the Geographical Sciences who are capable of assuming leadership roles within society and secondary schools.
The third purpose is to offer learners real-life experience in Geographical matters, enabling them to effectively address local, regional, and national environmental issues.
The fourth purpose is to provide learners with an adequate background in the complex relationships within physical, social, and built environments. This will enable them to pursue further qualifications in post-graduate programs, thereby widening the internationally recognized knowledge-base in Geography, especially within previously disadvantaged communities. This qualification aims to provide access to lifelong learning and higher qualifications in spatial, environmental, and Geographical sciences.
