Purpose and Rationale

Qualification Purpose

The purpose of the qualification is to equip qualifiers with the following:

  1. A postgraduate-level understanding of the field of human reproduction and assisted conception.

  2. Skills to comprehend and apply principles in areas such as andrology, embryology, cryopreservation, pre-implantation genetic diagnosis, implantation, pregnancy, and contraception.

  3. Specialization in a specific area of Reproductive Biology through a small research project, laying the groundwork for further academic pursuit.

  4. The capacity to absorb information and to critically evaluate the credibility and accuracy of research findings.

  5. Proficiency in crafting a dissertation centered on a research endeavor.

  6. Competence in presenting research findings at a scientific symposium.

Outcomes

  1. Obtain and assimilate scientific knowledge in reproductive biology by self study and lectures in applied reproductive biology###
  2. Write a research proposal under supervision###
  3. Execute a research project under supervision.
  4. Write research report(s) in the format to be submitted as oral and/or poster presentations at in-house seminars and national conferences. Compile seminars of specified subject matter and present as oral presentations at in-house seminars.
  5. Write a research report in the format to be submitted as a thesis. Critical cross-field outcomes: Understand the interactive elements of fundamental reproductive biology in a practical and theoretical sense. Existing knowledge of the student is expanded together with recent relevant philosophies and viewpoints in the field. Communicate effectively using visual and/or language skills in the modes or oral and/or written persuasion. Develop a critical and creative approach towards problem solving and assessments. Collect, analyse, organise and critically evaluate information. Interact effectively with other team members/researchers or professional with a professional approach and in context. The development of an observant, inquisitive and professional attitude towards science and health.

  5. Dissertation Completion: The completion of a dissertation according to scientific norms is crucial for assessment.
