Purpose and Rationale

The qualification aims to:

  • Secure Employment and Enhance Career Opportunities: Supplement undergraduate qualifications with broad exposure to management principles at the postgraduate level, aiding in securing employment and advancing career opportunities. This is especially beneficial for women graduates seeking to transition into fields historically dominated by men.

  • Promotion into Managerial Positions: Enhance opportunities for promotion into managerial roles by completing the programme on a full- or part-time basis. This is particularly valuable for black women who may be overlooked for career advancement without formal management qualifications.

  • Provide Access to Experienced Managers: Offer experienced managers without formal university qualifications the chance to complete graduate-level studies, provided they have ten years of work experience with some at a managerial or supervisory level.

Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate general knowledge in the field of management with the opportunity to acquire a greater breadth of knowledge of cognate functional areas of depth in a chosen area of specialisation, e.g. Marketing, Finance or Human Resource Management.
  2. Identify and solve management problems using some judgement across a range of functional areas.
  3. Organise oneself and work effectively with others as a team tackling business research projects, case studies and assignments.
  4. Able to collect, analyse, organise theoretical and practical information across a range of functional areas of management and critically evaluate information if an area of specialisation is selected.
  5. Communicate effectively using OHPs and language skills in oral and written presentation.
  6. Use basic desktop computer tools effectively to solve management problems.
  7. Demonstrate an understanding of the organisation as a set of related functions by applying holistic approaches to strategic business problems.

  6. Utilized basic desktop computer tools for effective management problem-solving.
  7. Employed holistic approaches to solve strategic business problems.

Integrated Assessment

  • Formative Assessment:

    • Various assignments, presentations, and research essays for feedback and mentoring.
  • Summative Assessment:

    • Formal examinations to evaluate learner capability and applied competence.

All modules in the Department will undergo continuous assessment to assess the achievement of these criteria.
