Purpose and Rationale

  1. Introduction to Human Resource Management: This course aims to familiarize learners with the field of human resource management, emphasizing the importance of balancing human needs with corporate objectives.

  2. The Role of People in Achieving Organizational Goals: Learners will be sensitized to how managers utilize the skills and capabilities of employees to attain the goals of an organization effectively.

  3. Adapting to Organizational Dynamics: This course will highlight the challenging and constantly evolving nature of organizations, emphasizing the importance of understanding these dynamics when working within Human Resources.

  4. Research Methodology in Problem-Solving: Learners will be equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to apply research methodology in their quest for solutions and in addressing various HR-related challenges.

Outcomes

  1. Ability to understand, analyse and critically assess related Human Resources issues.
  2. Ability to manage Human Resources in both the Private and the Public sectors.
  3. Ability to become more self-reliant, in that the student might start a business and do consultancy work. Critical cross-field outcomes: To train learners, in combination with other disciplines, like Business Management, Labour Law, Public Administration, etc. as an Entrepreneur/Manager, how to manage Human Resources, within the constraints of Economics and other societal boundaries.

Assessment Criteria

Assessment Methods for Administration Services Course

  1. Demonstrated Knowledge and Understanding

    • Depth and broader knowledge of rendering Administration services in South Africa
    • Assessments: written examinations, projects, case studies
  2. Legal Processes Analysis

    • Identification and analysis of legal processes in Administration services
    • Assessments: written assignments, case studies, oral examinations
  3. Record-Keeping

    • Keeping complete and accurate records of processes
    • Assessments: portfolios, simulations, group discussions
  4. Problem-Solving

    • Solving Administration problems in line with best practices
    • Assessments: group projects, business games, take-home assignments

Various assessment methods such as continuous and cumulative assessments will be used to evaluate the attainment of learning outcomes. Students will engage in written and oral examinations, projects, group work, and individual assignments. Portfolios, simulations, oral examinations, case studies, group discussions, and business games will also be utilized to assess students' understanding and application of Administration services within the South African context.
