Qualifiers who have completed this programme will have the ability to apply their educational knowledge, skills, principles, and methods in the field of basic pastoral care as a Congregational minister. They will also be equipped to further their theological training at NQF level 7. This will enable them to meet the needs of the community effectively, by providing pastoral care and support where necessary.

Moreover, these qualifiers will have a strong foundation in life-long learning and will understand the value of education and its impact on society. They will continuously seek opportunities for personal growth and development, as well as contribute positively to society through their work as Congregational ministers.

Overall, qualifiers of this programme will possess the necessary knowledge, skills, and applied competence in the field of study to pursue gainful economic activity and make rewarding contributions to society. Their education will serve as a platform for continued growth and success in their professional and personal lives.

Assessment Criteria

Evidence of Learning Competency:

  1. Simulating a Worship Service:

    • The learner will be required to plan and lead a simulated worship service, including selecting appropriate songs, prayers, and readings, and delivering a sermon or message.
  2. Simulating Pastoral Counselling:

    • The learner will engage in role-playing scenarios to simulate pastoral counselling sessions, demonstrating active listening, empathy, and appropriate guidance and support.
  3. Observation and Assessment in Practical Sessions:

    • The learner will be observed and assessed during practical sessions, receiving feedback on their performance in conducting worship services and pastoral counselling.

Integrated Assessment:

  • Continuous Assessment:

    • The learner will demonstrate competency through continuous assessment, showing their ability to achieve the outcomes of the qualification.
  • Course Mark:

    • Evaluation will include tests, assignments, projects, and written and oral examinations, with external evaluation contributing to the course mark.
  • Module Credit System:

    • A credit system will be used for modules, with a final exam on modules where credit was not obtained.
  • Assessment Moderation:

    • Assessment documents will be moderated to ensure they align with the qualification's scope and context, assessing critical outcomes achieved during the learner's activities.
  • Confirmation of Foundational Competency:

    • Assessments will confirm the embedded knowledge component to ensure foundational competency is achieved.
