Purpose and Rationale

Qualification Overview

The aim of this qualification is to provide learners with an opportunity to broaden their knowledge in Xhosa within the Faculty of Arts. This program offers an extensive reading experience, introducing students to classic texts in Xhosa literature, engaging with important thinkers in the field, and encouraging participation in scholarly debates with confidence. The foundational knowledge gained through this qualification equips learners for further studies at the postgraduate level, enabling them to expand and deepen their understanding of the discipline.

Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate a broad and integrated knowledge of the current scholarly discourse in Xhosa.
  2. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding through the reading and interpretation of classic and contemporary Xhosa texts.
  3. Express Xhosa abstract thoughts in a clear, logical and coherent manner in writing.
  4. Reflect the results of an independent Xhosa literature survey on a selected topic in a balanced and coherent way.
  5. Demonstrate skills to engage in post-graduate Xhosa research.
