Purpose and Rationale

Objectives of the Management Course:

  1. Equipping Candidates Across Sectors:

    • Provide candidates in the private, public, and voluntary sectors with core knowledge and skills on specialized aspects of management such as strategic management, project management, financial management, personnel management, and marketing.
  2. Promotion of Sustainable Growth and Development:

    • Aim to promote sustainable growth and development in the economy and society by imparting relevant management skills and knowledge.
  3. Maximization of Prosperity:

    • Enable candidates to maximize prosperity in all sectors through effective management practices.
  4. Development of Competent Leaders:

    • Develop competent leaders in the management field by providing them with fundamental and generic cross-functional knowledge and skills.
  5. Steering Sustainable Development:

    • Equip students with applied knowledge and skills to steer sustainable development, growth, and prosperity in the most appropriate direction.
  6. Preparation for Advanced Studies:

    • Provide students interested in advanced studies in management sciences with a solid academic foundation to pursue further education.

Outcomes

  1. Demonstrated ability to read and interpret management-related literature including the ability to teach themselves from source material
  2. Shown an understanding of the use of the scientific method in the acquisition of scientific management related knowledge (e.g. the importance of using sound controls and statistical methods)
  3. Demonstrated ability to identify and solve diverse management problems in a critical and creative way
  4. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others as a member of a management team in the private, developmental and public sectors
  5. Demonstrated ability to organise and manage oneself and one's personal activities responsibly and effectively
  6. Demonstrated ability to collect, analyse, organise and critically evaluate management related information
  7. Demonstrated ability to communicate management related issues effectively, using visual, mathematical and or language skills in the modes of oral and or written persuasion
  8. Demonstrated ability to use management related science and technology effectively and critically, showing responsibility towards the environment and interests of others
  9. Demonstrated understanding of the world as a set of related systems by recognising that management related problem solving contexts do not exist in isolation
  10. Demonstrated ability to understand and apply a range of management related techniques, procedures and experimental approaches required in the different specific programmes leading up to this qualification
  11. Demonstrated ability to apply the management related knowledge and practical skills to address theoretical and practical management problems.
  12. Demonstrated ability to learn and apply appropriate lessons from these experiences in order to solve management related problems in such a way that sustainable developmental outcomes occur
  13. A demonstrated understanding of: The theoretical underpinnings The empirical bodies of knowledge Practical experiences and skills related to the core aspects of the relevant management related subject matter in one or more of the chosen fields
  14. The demonstrated ability to: Manage business organisations effectively and efficiently in order to maximise profits Manage business finances optimally Manage human resources of organisations effectively and efficiently to improve the human capital of organisations Participate in the management of the supply chain in organisations Manage marketing processes of organisations optimally Mange public and development sector organisations effectively and efficiently in their pursuance of the public interest

Assessment Criteria

  1. The assessment used for this qualification ensures that the purpose of the qualification is achieved.

  2. A range of formative and summative assessment methods such as simulations, assignments, workplace assessments, written and oral presentations, and examinations are used.

  3. The required range of modalities is used integratively to assess whether the specified outcomes have been achieved.

  4. From the assessment of samples, generalizing to a domain takes place in a judicious and planned way in order to ensure reliability.

  5. The assessment used meets the standard and level of achievement for NQF levels 5 and 6.

INTEGRATED ASSESSMENT

Integrated assessments take place by way of a variety of procedures including practically orientated cross-disciplinary individual and group assignments, simulations, work-place assessments, written and oral presentations, tests, and examinations.
