Outcomes

  1. Demonstrated understanding of the working of markets, including markets for products an services (e.g. agricultural and transport markets) labour markets, money and capital markets
  2. Demonstrated understanding of how economic behaviour determines outcomes in different economic systems and market structures
  3. Demonstrated understanding of the impact of events in financial markets, international trade and international finance on the real domestic economy
  4. Demonstrated understanding of the macro-economic as well as micro-economic (including distributional impacts of policy choices)
  5. Demonstrated ability to read and interpret economics and applied economics literature and to collect, analyse, organise and critically evaluate economic information
  6. Demonstrated understanding of the use of scientific method in the acquisition and application of knowledge (e.g. the importance of using sound controls and statistical methods) in Economics or one of its sub-disciplines, particularly Transport Economics and Agricultural Economics
  7. Demonstrated ability to interpret the economic environment, including the policy environment, and to apply this knowledge in a critical and creative way in the pursuit of various goals in the public (policy), private ad voluntary sectors
  8. Demonstrated ability to communicate economic issues effectively, using visual, statistical, mathematical and or language skills to work with and apply a range of economic, econometric and statistical techniques or procedures to economic data
  9. Demonstrated ability to use science and technology effectively and critically in the fields of Economics, Statistics, Agriculture and Transport
  10. Demonstrated understanding of the inter-relatedness of economic, social and policy variables in problem-solving, including statistical and econometric analysis

Assessment Criteria

  1. The assessment used for this qualification ensures that the purpose of the qualification is achieved.
  2. A range of formative and summative assessment methods such as simulations, assignments, workplace assessments, written and oral presentations, and examinations are used.
  3. Strong emphasis is placed on assessing the ability of students to use computers and appropriate programs to apply their statistical knowledge in the economic field.
  4. The required range of modalities is used integratively to assess whether the specified outcomes have been achieved.
  5. From the assessment of samples generalizing to a domain takes place in a judicious and planned way in order to ensure reliability.
  6. The assessment used meets the standard and level of achievement for NQF levels 5 and 6.

INTEGRATED ASSESSMENT
Integrated assessment takes place in terms of a variety of procedures such as cross-disciplinary assignments, simulations, workplace assessments, written examinations, and oral presentations.
