Purpose and Rationale

Program Objectives:

  1. Provide qualifying learners with an in-depth knowledge of economic theory and empirical applications of economic methodologies in policy relevant in Economics.

  2. Prepare learners for more advanced training in Economics.

  3. Guide learners to appreciate the importance of sound economic management, and actions institutions can take to improve the well-being of South Africans.

Outcomes

  1. Ability to work as a professional economist in the private and/or public sector in South Africa and elsewhere.
  2. Ability to analyse and critically evaluate economic policy issues.
  3. Ability to undertake policy relevant research and draw policy implications.
  4. Ability to provide training and capacity building in economics related professions. Critical cross-field outcomes: To prepare learners to identify, analyse, formulate and solve community problems in a creative and innovative manner.

Assessment Criteria

Qualification is awarded on successful completion of all the prescribed modules in the B.Econ (Honours) programmes.
