Purpose and Rationale

  5. Learners must be able to apply major principles and processes used in developing and maintaining information systems.
  6. Should be able to describe important issues in the management of information systems function, explain subsystems comprising business systems, demonstrate understanding of main areas of concern in the control of computerised system, and use computers to solve typical business problems.
  7. Learners should show competence in systems analysis and design process modelling, database and computer interface design. Cert Com (BIS):
  8. Learners should be able to perform basic information processing tasks.
  9. Learners should be able to use computers for problem solving tasks, and must be able to apply major principles and processes used in developing and maintaining information systems.
  10. Learners should demonstrate their understanding and skills to support good computing practice demonstrate understanding of the use of computer hardware and software and be able to use computers for related organisational issues through the practical use of spreadsheets, data bases and graphics.
  11. Learners must describe importance issues in the management of information systems function, be able to explain subsystems, demonstrate their understanding of the main areas of concern in the control of computerised systems.

Assessment Criteria

  • Qualification is awarded on successful completion of all the prescribed modules and practical experience (i.e., supervised work experience).

  • The learners should be able to relate learning gained in practical or industrial attachment to knowledge encountered in class and lecturer, and vice versa.

  • The following assessment will apply:

    • Examinations: 25%
    • Assignments: 25%
    • Group Project: 50%
  • Qualification is awarded on successful completion of all prescribed modules up to year 2.

  • The following assessment criteria will apply:

    • Examinations: 25%
    • Assignments: 25%
    • Group Project: 50%
  • Qualification is awarded on successful completion of all modules in year 1.

  • The following assessment criteria will apply:
