The Qualification in Plant Production aims to provide comprehensive foundational knowledge in agriculture, with a specific emphasis on plant production, especially in the realm of field crops such as forage crops. The curriculum covers essential agronomic practices and other pertinent technical and managerial competencies to equip students for careers in both the private and public sectors.
Upon completion of the qualification, graduates will possess a heightened sense of societal awareness and ethical responsibility, recognizing their role as agricultural professionals in the broader community. This holistic approach ensures that learners are well-prepared to contribute meaningfully to the field of agriculture and adapt to its ever-evolving landscape.
Integrated assessment will be incorporated to ensure that the purpose of the qualification is achieved through the following methods:
Portfolios: Learners will compile portfolios showcasing their work, projects, and assignments completed throughout the course. This will demonstrate their ability to apply theoretical knowledge in practical settings.
Work-place assessments: Practical assessments conducted in a work environment will evaluate learners' skills and competence in real-life situations relevant to the discipline.
Written examinations: Traditional written exams will be used to assess learners' understanding of theoretical concepts, principles, and their ability to critically analyze and evaluate information.
Oral examinations: Oral exams will provide an opportunity for learners to verbally demonstrate their understanding, reasoning, and communication skills in discussing key topics related to the discipline.
A variety of continuous and cumulative assessment methods will be employed, including field and laboratory practicals, take-home assignments, projects, group and individual work, as well as written and oral examinations. These assessments will be designed to evaluate whether learning outcomes have been achieved, with a focus on problem-solving skills and the application of principles and concepts within the discipline. Learners will be expected to demonstrate their grasp and understanding of the subject matter through these diverse assessment methods.
