Purpose and Rationale

The purpose of this programme is to equip learners with advanced management knowledge, skills and applied competency in a variety of fields including Strategic Management, Financial Management, Marketing Management, Operations Management, Small Business Management, and Marketing Research. This will prepare them for employment opportunities in the commercial world, as well as for potential advancement to senior business management positions. Additionally, learners will be equipped to pursue opportunities as self-employed entrepreneurs in highly competitive, multicultural business environments.

The rationale behind this programme is to meet the demands of the modern business world, where strong management skills are essential for success. By providing learners with a comprehensive understanding of various management disciplines, this programme aims to enhance their career prospects and enable them to thrive in diverse business environments. Ultimately, the programme seeks to empower learners to excel in management roles and contribute effectively to the global business landscape.

Outcomes

  1. Learners will be able to demonstrate competency in the management of private enterprise, departments or sections to the benefit of all stakeholders in the multi-cultural business environment.
  2. Learners will be able to demonstrate competency in the execution of the tasks of planning, organising, leading and control in the different fields of marketing, finance, human resources, operations, information technology, etc.
  3. Learners will be able to demonstrate competency in research including data collection, analysis, interpretation and recommendations presented in a compulsory mini-dissertation.
  4. Learners will be able to demonstrate competence in managing and optimizing the limited economic resources.
  5. Learners will be able to demonstrate competency in applying appropriate business ethics in all operations while showing a sensitivity to cultural and ethical issues.
  6. Learners will be able to demonstrate competency in trading-off social responsibility and the goal of shareholder wealth-maximisation.
  7. Learners will be able to demonstrate competency in computer proficiency and the use of information technology.

Assessment Criteria

Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 1:

  • Independently and in groups solve business-related decision-making problems about various practical situations at the hand of case studies.
  • Approach problems in a scientific way.
  • Apply the acquired advanced theoretical knowledge to solve instructional problems.

Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 2:

  • Apply the subject theory efficiently in practical problem-solving case studies and the presentation of seminars.
  • Solve advanced management problems pertaining to marketing, finance, human resources, operations, and information technology.

Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 3:

  • Do an independent survey, researching a topical problem or business aspect.
  • Present research findings/results and recommendations in a technical report.

Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 4:

  • Critically interpret, analyze and differentiate between areas of inefficiency and efficiency.
  • Present solutions to overcome areas of inefficiency to promote productivity.

Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 5:

  • Show a sensitivity for cultural and ethical issues.
  • Express an opinion on practical business problems related to the solving of instructional problems on these issues.

Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 6:

  • Apply acquired theoretical knowledge and learning theories to the solving of instructional problems on these issues.

Associated Assessment Criteria for Exit Level Outcome 7:

  • Apply computer proficiency in problem-solving, research methodology, and the presentation of the findings of an independent scientific research survey.

Integrated Assessment:

  • The acquired competence and skills will be evaluated at the hand of formative assessment methods like assignments, case studies, group discussions, and tests.
  • Diagnostic assessment will be applied to pinpoint general misinterpretations and mistakes through the application of feedback on tests, suggested solutions to applied problems and case studies, as well as personal guidance.
  • Summative assessment, such as examinations, will be done reflecting on the overall achievement of learners and personal consultations.
  • Evaluative assessment of learner achievements will be conducted on a continuous basis as part of promoting improvement and for the purpose of curriculum development.
