The assessment criteria for this music course include:
Reading and studying music and literature about music: Students will be assessed on their ability to engage with and analyze written material related to music.
Expressing themselves clearly in writing about music: Students will be evaluated on their written communication skills when discussing musical concepts and ideas.
Music sight reading skills: Students will be tested on their ability to sight read music, demonstrating fluency in reading musical notation.
Music theory: Assessment will include written exams on music theory concepts as well as practical application of these concepts in music composition and performance.
Designing and producing a mini-dissertation or long essay: Students will be required to research and write a substantial piece of academic work on a music-related topic.
Portfolio of compositions: Students will create a portfolio that includes original musical compositions, along with accompanying written explanations and recordings of the compositions.
Practical performance: Assessment will involve both individual and group performances, where students showcase their musical skills in a live setting.
Describing and using electronic equipment: Students will demonstrate their ability to describe and operate electronic music equipment effectively.
Maintaining and making African musical instruments: Assessment will include students' proficiency in maintaining and crafting traditional African musical instruments.
