Purpose and Rationale

Qualification Purpose:

The purpose of this qualification is to equip qualifiers with a post-graduate level of knowledge in one of the subdivisions of Anatomy, which include Gross Anatomy, Neuro-anatomy, Embryology, Anthropology, and Histology. Qualifiers will develop specialized skills and applied competence within their chosen field, gaining a profound understanding of human morphology, development, and variation.

Additionally, qualifiers will learn how to create and execute research proposals, as well as conduct fundamental research within the field of Anatomy. This qualification aims to provide specific and interdisciplinary outcomes, fostering a spirit of continuous learning throughout the qualifier's professional journey.

Outcomes

  1. Obtain sound, in depth knowledge of the specific branch of human Anatomy.
  2. Apply basic techniques necessary for that specific branch of human Anatomy.
  3. Be able to conduct thorough literature searches.
  4. Execute a research project under supervision, analyse data and apply basic statistics.

Assessment Criteria

Theoretical Knowledge

  • Understanding advanced concepts in Anatomy, including tissue types, organ systems, and anatomical relationships.
  • Applying knowledge of anatomical terminology and principles to interpret complex anatomical structures and functions.

Techniques

  • Performing advanced dissections to study anatomical structures in detail.
  • Using advanced imaging techniques such as MRI and CT scans to visualize internal structures.
  • Conducting histological studies to examine tissues at a microscopic level.

Literature Studies

  • Conducting seminars on current research topics in Anatomy to engage with peers and expand knowledge.
  • Reviewing and analyzing research articles to stay updated on advancements in the field.

Research Project

  • Designing and conducting a research project in Anatomy, following ethical guidelines and accepted research methods.
  • Writing a comprehensive research report outlining the study design, methods, results, and conclusions.
  • Presenting research findings to peers and lecturers through presentations and discussions.
