Purpose and Rationale

The qualification provides learners with graduate-level knowledge in:

  1. Economics analysis and policy application.
  2. A sound theoretical base and understanding of various sub-disciplines of economics.
  3. To provide South Africa with theoretically specialised postgraduates with sound economic analytical skills and ability.

Outcomes

  1. Identify and solve problems on economic trends and strategic planning by using critical and creative thinking.
  2. Work effectively with management and a team, group, organisation and community, implementing economic principles and prescribed economic policy.
  3. Collect, analyse, organise and critically evaluate economic and financial data.
  4. Communicate effectively using visual statistical computer and language skills as well as economic scenarios in the modes of oral and/or written persuasion.
  5. Organise and manage oneself and one's activities responsibly and effectively.
  6. Use science and technology effectively and critically, showing responsibility towards the environment and health of others.

Assessment Criteria

  • Rendering services: Providing services in financial, private, and government sectors at an intermediate level of administration and management.
  • Integrated Assessment: Using simulations to assess knowledge and skills in various scenarios.
  • Written examinations: Testing understanding of concepts through written assessments.
  • Other: Completing a research project to demonstrate knowledge and analysis skills.
