Purpose and Rationale

The main purposes of this qualification are:

  1. Graduate-level Knowledge: Provide qualifiers with graduate-level (level 7) knowledge, specific skills, and applied competence in the field of Plant Production. This will facilitate personal intellectual growth, gainful economic activity, and contributions to society.

  2. Professional Scientists: Develop professional Crop-, Horticultural- and Pasture Scientists in southern Africa. These scientists will have a clear understanding of plant-environment interactions based on knowledge of functional anatomy, physiology, growth, genetics, nutrition, and management of field crops, horticultural crops, pasture, and rangeland.

  3. Contribution to Applied Fields: Equip graduates to contribute significantly to applied fields such as environmental management, livestock production systems, nature conservation, reclamation of degraded lands, wildlife management, irrigation management, and weed control. This qualification aims to enable graduates to make meaningful contributions in various practical and environmental aspects related to plant production.
