Purpose and Rationale

This qualification aims to:

  1. Compound and expand the learners' knowledge in the field of Zoology.
  2. Train learners to conduct research in the field of Zoology, including the ability to plan basic research qualifications, experiments, and surveys.
  3. Be applied and conducted in the fields of conservation, pest management, and fundamental scientific research.

Outcomes

  1. Identify and solve problems in which responses display that responsible decisions using critical and creative thinking have been made.
  2. Organise and manage oneself and one's activities responsibly and effectively.
  3. Collect, analyse, organise and critically evaluate information.
  4. Communicate effectively using visual, mathematical and/or language skills in the modes or oral and or written persuasion.
  5. Contribute to the full personal development of each learner and the social and economic development of the society at large, by making it the underlying intention of any qualification of learning to make an individual aware of the importance of: Reflect on and explore a variety of strategies to learn more effectively.
  6. Participate as responsible citizens in the life of local, national and global communities.
  7. Explore education and career opportunities.

Assessment Criteria

The following associated assessment criteria apply across all Exit Level Outcomes:

  • Design experiments and sampling
  • Plan and conduct a research project, including the written and verbal presentation of a research proposal and research report
  • Access, extract and synthesize scientific information from multimedia sources
  • Critically interpret and evaluate published scientific information
  • Apply acquired knowledge to the solution of conservation and environmental problems.
